The Voyager School
The Voyager School is due to open in September next year and will take pupils from the Bretton Woods and Walton community schools, which will close this summer.
In Walton Community sports hall, teachers, governors, council representatives and Bouygues UK, the construction company, were able to answer any questions parents and pupils had. The visitors were catered for by Ecovert FM who will provide the facilities management for the next 30 years. Display boards outlined the school curriculum and the building plans.
Then two groups of 300 parents and children made their way via the future entrance of The Voyager to the "community wing" and saw what is to become a theatre and a library. They sat in the learning resources centre, which is currently an empty concrete shell with no windows. Children and parents alike were excited with the project and the prospects as they listened to headteacher Hugh Howe's speech. He outlined the school’s approach to teaching and learning, the policies and the opportunities that will be available for all.
Ken Stimpson School
At Ken Stimpson School the evening ran very smoothly and prospective parents could visit the school and hear the Principal David McPartlin present his project for the future school year. "We were very encouraged last night to note that, without exception, visitors were hugely impressed with the school in general, the student’s guides, the quality of the building – both refurbished and existing areas – the classroom activities etc."
David McPartlin Principal at the Ken Stimpson School is working in close partnership with Nick Austin, Bouygues UK Site Manager and his team. When asked about his impressions so far with the refurbishement and work progress he answered "that the many refurbished areas of the school look extremely attractive and have been welcomed by staff and students alike. Of course this is only the first element in the dramatic changes taking place to the school site. The developments to this point have only been achieved with an enormous investment of money, time and effort. The construction team have worked extremely hard to complete the specific projects on time. Immediately prior to the beginning of term all members of staff were involved in working alongside the construction team, the equipment providers and installers to ensure we were able to open on time and able to access these very impressive areas of the school for the start of term in September. I am very grateful to them all".
Refurbishment and extensions will update existing areas and provide new facilities and opportunities for both students and the community. New buildings include an assembly hall, new science labs and countless new teaching areas. Admin accommodation, ICT areas and numerous classrooms have already been refurbished.
Works are on time and Bouygues UK, who made its possible to accommodate such great number of visitors in a safe manner, was very pleased to see all the excitement gathering pace around the school development.
